IndieBound Reader™ is an ebook reading application created by the American Booksellers Association and Bluefire Productions, an independent software company in Seattle, WA. It allows book lovers to read ebooks purchased at their local, independent bookstores.
How to get the app
Android customers can find the IndieBound Reader HERE. The application is compatible with any device running Android 2.2 or later, including many smartphones, tablets, and netbooks. IndieBound Reader requires an internet connection to activate the application and download ebooks. Once the app has been activated and books have been downloaded, you can read your Library without being connected to the internet.
How to read
Downloading books
In order to read an ebook it must be downloaded from the store into the IndieBound Reader Library. From the store page, you can view your My eBooks page, and see all Google eBooks purchased. Choosing the download link on any Google eBook will add that book to the IndieBound Reader Library.
Library
Tapping the Library button in the Main Toolbar will show a list of Google eBooks that have been downloaded to the IndieBound Reader. There are two views within Library: Covers View and List View. The Library can be sorted by tapping on the Sort button at the top of the screen. There are three sorts: most-recently read, author name, and ebook title
Reading
Tapping on a cover image or book title in the Library opens an ebook for reading. Tapping on the right edge of a page or swiping from the left turns a page. Tapping on the center of the screen brings up navigation buttons to shift between pages, as well as a book location slider. Readers can make bookmarks and take notes in the IndieBound Reader. When the
screen is tapped, a title bar appears at the top with a Bookmark button to the right. When the Bookmark button is pressed, a Notes screen appears. You can write a note on the page you have selected, or leave the field blank. To bookmark or note a special piece of text, you press and hold on a word to select it, then drag the selection to encompass a range of text.
Tapping the reading screen also brings up a Reading Controls toolbar at the bottom of the page. This includes Info, Contents, Bookmarks, and Settings, as well as a link back to the main Library. “Settings” allows you to customize the reading experience with varying text size and orientation. “Bookmarks” lists all the bookmarks and notes made on the current ebook. “Contents” is a clickable table of contents. “Info” shows publication information, download and reading dates, and current reading location, and also includes a Delete button (See Deleting a book below).
Deleting a book
To delete an ebook from the Library, you open the book and choose the Info screen. Pressing the Delete button deletes the book. The info screen can also be accessed directly from the Library when in List view by clicking the circular button to the right of any ebook. Additionally the Edit button in the upper righthand corner (with an image of a pencil) allows you to delete several books at once.
Please note this is not a reversible action—the book will be removed from the Library and deleted from the device. However, any Google eBook can always be re-downloaded from the My eBooks page in the IndieCommerce store.
